“Achieving Justice” with Douglas Nobles, candidate for Judge of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations & Juvenile

Attorney Douglas Nobles is currently the lead prosecutor for Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein.  In his legal career he has experience in a wide variety of roles.

In this latest installment of Justice Jennifer Brunner’s “Achieving Justice” video series, Attorney Nobles reflects on how his experience working on both sides of a court case, first as a public defender and now as a prosecutor, has given him a broad perspective.

Throughout his legal career, Douglas Nobles has seen the importance of protecting both the rights of victims to be informed and to be heard, and the rights of the accused to due process and the presumption of innocence. He believes the best judges maintain an empathetic demeanor while remaining fair and consistent. He says this is particularly important in juvenile cases.

Nobles is running for judge of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Domestic Relations and Juvenile Division in the upcoming November election.

If elected, he would be the first African American man to serve as judge of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Domestic Relations and Juvenile Division. He said that in addition to his experience as an attorney, he brings the perspective of a parent of two sons, with a daughter on the way.

As a Judge, he would strive to identify what leads kids to the juvenile division of the court, and he hopes to work to prevent their future involvement in the juvenile justice system. He said he feels a responsibility to connect families in the community with the resources they need.

Justice Brunner started "Achieving Justice" in 2020 during her campaign for the Ohio Supreme Court. The program educates individuals about Ohio's judicial system and the judges and candidates for judge who serve and wish to serve their state and community. A new Achieving Justice interview is to be released each week. All the 2022 Achieving Justice interviews can be found here: https://www.justicebrunner.com/news.

“Serving the people and the cause of justice is one of the most important callings in our democratic system,” Justice Brunner said. “I believe that the more information the public has about the courts, their judges, and judicial candidates, the stronger our system is.”

Justice Brunner is a candidate for Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court in 2022.
